CEILING DESIGN
Behavioral healthcare design for kids and teenagers should be creative, soothing, and fun in order for therapeutic outcomes to be maximized. Here's a sketch of a ceiling design that incorporates the natural world while providing lighting and a means of escape from traumatic memories and intrusive thoughts with custom lights shaped like clouds, wind, flowers, and trees. The main corridors are public and use long custom LED "branches" flush mounted to the ceiling as a means of pointing toward emergency exits for quick and intuitive wayfinding.
FLOOR DESIGN
Floor design for healthcare should be durable, sustainable and nontoxic, comfortable while it provides easy cleanability and practical use for high traffic. To reduce trip and germ hazards, it should also be level and without seams. For this purpose, I chose to create with rubber flooring (rubber is a plant) that can be used safely and recycled in a variety of places. Main public spaces were designed to mimic tree branches and a variety of green hues to help point people toward emergency exits in an intuitive way.
